The other kind of fun might be tagged with a single word: savagery. The boys on the island form into a new society, a savage society, and it has its own entertainment. This savage fun—and the boys clearly do enjoy it—ranges from teasing people (think of how Piggy is treated) to hunting and killing, to painting their faces and dancing round the fire in dark shamanic rituals, and to, finally, killing one another. All of this is fun to the boys the longer they live on the island, and each time they engage in it they lose part of their civilized selves.
