Simon secretly witnesses the killing of the sow from his jungle getaway. This enables him to wait for the hunters to leave and then sit down to contemplate what is happening to the boys. At this point he has an epileptic seizure and imagines having a conversation with the pig's head. The head or "Lord of the Flies" tells Simon that it is a part of him. Therefore the evil that is taking over the boys is an innate part of human nature. After the conversation, and seizure, Simon decides to climb the mountain to take another look at "the beast".
