In "Lord of the Flies," how does Ralph respond to Piggy's practical suggestions to have a meeting?

    There are several instances when Piggy suggests that Ralph call a meeting, so it is slightly difficult to answer your question.  The first time Piggy suggests this is in chapter one, and Ralph pretty readily agrees that the conch be used to call a meeting, at which he is elected leader mainly because he is the boy with the conch (ironic, considering it was Piggy's idea).

    There are, as stated above, further instances.  Piggy also suggests that Ralph hold a meeting when the boys first begin to be distracted by Jack's "dance."  Ralph replies nervously, afraid that the boys might not return for the meeting upon hearing the conch.  This scares Ralph because it would mean civilization is already beginning to break down on the island, so he opts to remain ignorant and not call the meeting.
