   Chapter 9 included the death of Simon. In Chapter 10, the boys sort through the aftermath of that death and try to figure out what it means to all of them. On the level of the plot, Roger goes as a kind of ambassador to the other group of boys. Then, that night, Jack's tribe attacks the other tribe. They steal Piggy's glasses, which matters both on the plot level (he can't see as well, and they can't use them to start fires) and on the symbolic level (this tribe has lost its way, or been blinded). The symbolic level is underscored by the fact that Ralph and Eric were beating each other in the attack.

   Chapter 10 in "Lord of the Flies" is entitled The Shell and The Glasses.  The "civilized" vs the "hunters"  is a big part of this chapter.  "Only Ralph, Piggy, Samneric, and some littluns remain loyal to the conch."  The rest of the boys have given themselves over to the "chief," Jack.  While Ralph and his group are trying to come to grips with Simon's death, Jack and his group are planning on the next hunt and how to get fire.  Jack and the hunters decide to raid the camp and they fight with the boys that remain faithful to civilized behavior.  They steal Piggy's glasses so they can "own the fire" and they run back to the top of the mountain.
