In "The Lord of the Flies," why does Ralph tell Piggy, "We''ll have to stay here," and not maintain the mountain fire? 

What solution does Piggy then come up with?  (After reading Chapters 6,7,and 8)

    They think there is a physical beast on the mountain; one that scares them enough to abandon their signal fire and their hopes of being rescued.

    Piggy suggests relighting the fire on the beach instead of the mountain.  He and Ralph recognize that it will be more difficult to see because it is considerably lower than their first fire, but that is a worthwhile sacrifice when compared to facing the beast on the mountain.
