There was prophecy in medieval times, but no, it was not a primary or defining element of that period. Rather, look back into older periods to see full blown dominance of prophecy. Think of the period of the Greek myths, or even the classical period of ancient Greece, when the oracle at Delphi maintained an ongoing prophetic presence. Or, think of the period stretching for a thousand years BCE in the history of the Jewish people. That period is marked, and at times defined, by the presence of persuasive prophets.
So, while there were prophets during medieval times, it was not the defining period for this.
